An ‘Enclave’ is a territory surrounded by an even larger territory whose inhabitants are culturally, ethically or even sometimes diplomatically distinct. And such a place has been taken by a state/county in the South-West India, Goa.
I've been to Goa, India in July 2022 for an Art Residency under Vulcan Art Gallery, followed by the exhibition. Hence, whenever we travel from our region to a new land we get a bit astonished with the ambience and sometimes we might have a feeling of déjà vu too. Since, the State/County of Goa had a different colonial history (Portuguese Rule) as opposed to the British Rule in major parts of India, but this present-day region is heavily influenced by the ruler's culture, perhaps when I landed into the interiors I was taken aback by the culture and lifestyle it possesses, the immaculate architecture and some streets reminded me of South East-Asian coasts. Hence, the name ‘Enclave’ came into existence.
The artwork is inspired by the region, as we saw forest cover and roads moving in between those cover. Apart from culture and architecture, we also saw villages, shops, pubs, live performances, colourful marquee lights and the rental cars situated on roads. All of the above amalgamation makes what is known as Goa, India.
